In a symbolic gesture of goodwill and strengthened bilateral ties, former U.S. President Donald J. Trump has presented a special gift to Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., delivered through the Liberian Ambassador to the United States and received officially via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia.

The presentation took place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, following President Boakai’s recent high-level engagement with President Trump at the White House during the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. The meeting, described by observers as cordial and forward-looking, underscored the evolving partnership between Liberia and the United States in key areas such as trade, energy, infrastructure, and democratic governance.

During their closed-door meeting, President Trump praised President Boakai for his “remarkable eloquence, wisdom, and leadership,” calling him “a true statesman and a voice of reason on the African continent.”

The gift—an elegant, custom-crafted American-made timepiece engraved with the U.S. and Liberian flags—was accompanied by a handwritten note from President Trump, expressing admiration for President Boakai’s vision and reaffirming his commitment to supporting Liberia’s growth and prosperity.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the gift was formally received by Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in a brief ceremony attended by senior officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the Office of the President. The gesture was hailed as “a reflection of the enduring bonds between the United States and Liberia, rooted in history, shared values, and mutual aspirations.”

President Boakai, in a statement issued following the presentation, extended gratitude to President Trump for the thoughtful gift and warm sentiments. He noted that Liberia remains committed to deepening its relationship with the United States and leveraging that partnership to advance regional stability, economic empowerment, and democratic progress.

This exchange comes amid renewed efforts by the Boakai administration to reposition Liberia on the global stage through strategic diplomacy, regional cooperation, and sustained governance reforms.
