IPNEWS: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has provided emergency relief assistance to three families affected by a recent fire outbreak at the Edward B. Kesselly (E.B.K.) Military Barracks, donating US$5,000 and ten (10) bags of rice each to the victims.

The gesture of support reflects the President’s continued commitment to the welfare of members of the Armed Forces of Liberia and to Liberians affected by unforeseen disasters.

The donation was made yesterday, February 5, 2026 in Schiefflin Township, Margibi County, on the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway where the affected families are temporarily residing.

Addressing the victims, President Boakai acknowledged the sacrifices of soldiers in service to the nation and highlighted government’s responsibility to safeguard their wellbeing. “Because you serve the country and make sacrifices, our job is to ensure that we make things convenient for you,” the President assured.

The fire incident, which occurred on February 1, 2026, was reportedly caused by an electrical malfunction, causing the destruction of three adjoining homes, leaving families without shelter and household belongings.

President Boakai also informed the leadership of ongoing efforts to renovate the E.B.K. Military Barracks, noting that improving living conditions for military personnel remains a priority. “That is why we started renovating the Camp, to ensure that your lives not only safe but also comfortable,” he said.

Responding to questions from journalists regarding the 72nd Barracks and encroachment by private citizens, the President expressed his empathy to the victims but committed that actions his Administration’s will ensure fairness within the framework of rule of law void of arbitrary actions.

He stated that while the Armed Forces of Liberia have clearly defined boundaries, if disputes over boundaries emerge, there are lawful mechanisms through which any disputes can be resolved, stressing that no institution is above the law. “We will ensure that the army does not infringe on anybody’s rights,” President Boakai assured.

The President concluded by assuring his Administration’s resolve to promote a balanced and respectful relationship between civilians and the military, anchored on the rule of law, mutual respect, and national unity.
