IPNEWS: The Leadership of the House of Representatives will on Monday at mid-day meet with citizens and residents claiming ownership of land along the 72nd Barracks, popularly known as Camp Ramrod. The meeting will be held in the First Floor Conference Room of the House of Representatives.

The decision follows a communication from Montserrado County Electoral District #5 Representative, Hon. Priscillia A. Cooper, who brought to the official attention of Plenary concerns affecting her constituents regarding land occupancy issues allegedly outside Camp Ramrod. In her communication, Rep. Cooper requested that Plenary invite the Ministry of National Defense to provide clarity on the matter.

On Thursday, during the 8th Day Sitting of the 3rd Session of the 55th Legislature, the Speaker Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, announced that the Leadership of the House will hold the meeting to engage directly with the affected citizens and residents claiming ownership of the land.

Speaker Koon stressed that the House of Representatives is concerned about the welfare and well-being of every Liberian citizen, and remains committed to ensuring that citizens’ grievances are addressed through peaceful dialogue and institutional engagement.

For her part, Rep. Priscillia A. Cooper expressed appreciation to the Speaker and the leadership of the House for their timely intervention, noting that it is important to listen to the plights of her constituents and provide them an opportunity to be heard.

The House leadership assured that the engagement will help guide further actions, including engagement with relevant government institutions, in the interest of fairness, transparency, national security, and community stability.
