IPNEWS: Liberia is actively seeking technical and logistical backing for the Liberia National Police (LNP) at the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026).
The summit, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, serves as a strategic platform for global law enforcement heads to tackle emerging security threats and scale up policing capacities.
The Liberian delegation consist of Atty. Kiaffa Bahn Kemokai, Chief of Office Staff to the Minister of Justice, led the delegation. He stepped in as head of delegation after the Minister of Justice had to cancel due to a domestic national emergency.
The delegation included LNP Inspector General Col. Gregory Coleman alongside several senior police officials.
The team focused on driving international partnerships, adopting modern global policing standards, and securing technical resources to enhance the operational capability of the LNP.
This push for security sector collaboration aligns with Liberia’s expanded global role, as the country transitions from a post-conflict nation to a regular contributor to UN peacekeeping missions. Furthermore, Liberia’s participation coincides with its term as a newly elected non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2026–2027 period.
