IPNEWS: The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has commenced a comprehensive technical review of the Liberia Revenue Code, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the country’s tax and revenue administration system and ensuring that it remains responsive to Liberia’s evolving economic, business, and administrative environment.

The five-day technical working session is being held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, under the leadership of the LRA’s Policy, Statistics and Strategic Planning Division (PSSPD).

The exercise brings together technical experts from across the Authority to carefully examine existing provisions of the Revenue Code and identify areas requiring improvement and amendment.

The review represents an important step toward modernizing Liberia’s revenue legislation and creating a more effective and efficient tax administration framework.

Experts are assessing provisions of the Code to determine whether they adequately address the realities of today’s economy and the changing needs of businesses, taxpayers, and government.

Through the exercise, the LRA is seeking to strengthen the legal foundation of domestic revenue mobilization while promoting greater efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness within the tax system.

The initiative is also expected to help ensure that Liberia’s revenue framework supports a more predictable and conducive environment for economic activity.

Following the technical review, proposed amendments will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for further technical discussions and broad stakeholder consultations.

These engagements are expected to provide an opportunity for relevant institutions and stakeholders to contribute to the refinement of the proposed reforms.

The final package of amendments will subsequently be forwarded to the National Legislature for consideration and passage in accordance with Liberia’s established legislative procedures.

The initiative highlights the LRA’s ongoing efforts to build a modern and responsive revenue administration capable of supporting Liberia’s development priorities.

By continuously reviewing and improving the Revenue Code, the Authority is positioning the country’s tax system to better respond to economic growth, strengthen public financial management, and enhance domestic resource mobilization.

The comprehensive review therefore underscores the LRA’s broader commitment to building a stronger revenue system that can contribute meaningfully to sustainable economic growth, improved public services, and Liberia’s long-term national development.
