IPNEWS: Liberia has successfully concluded its leadership as Coordinator of the Ten Elected Members (E10) of the United Nations Security Council for August 2026, marking a historic milestone in its global diplomatic resurgence.

Stepping into the helm of the E10 alongside Bahrain, Colombia, DRC, Denmark, Greece, Latvia, Panama, Somalia, and Pakistan, Liberia strategically projected African leadership, unified non-permanent members, and shaped critical debate on pressing global peace and security files.

    Key Achievements and Diplomatic Interventions.

High-Level Security Council Diplomacy: Hosted UN Secretary-General António Guterres and E10 Ambassadors for a strategic luncheon centered on accelerating humanitarian interventions in Gaza and the West Bank.

Regional & Crisis Resolution: Chaired the Political Coordinators’ Meeting to align consensus on the Libyan political process, security dynamics across West Africa and the Sahel, and the E10 Joint Statement on Security Council Working Methods.

International Judicial Oversight: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Lewis G. Brown II convened high-level negotiations with International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) President Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, driving resolution terms on judicial archives, institutional downsizing, and UN oversight sensitivities involving Rwanda and Tanzania.

Humanitarian Advocacy & International Law: Spearheaded expert briefings on the Ukraine humanitarian crisis and led targeted press interventions demanding the immediate release of illegally detained UN and aid personnel in Yemen.

Council Reform & Strategic Alignment: Championed reform of Security Council Subsidiary Bodies to streamline operations and ensure unified diplomatic alignment between the E10 and the Permanent Five (P5).

A Lasting Legacy on the World Stage

Liberia’s month-long tenure as Coordinator demonstrated strategic leadership, robust policy alignment, and an elevated ability to forge consensus among diverse international partners. Upon concluding its leadership, the E10 alliance formally commended Liberia for its decisive steering of the Council’s thematic priorities throughout August.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has assumed the E10 Coordination role for September, while Liberia remains positioned as an influential, principled voice on the Security Council, committed to driving international peace, stability, and multilateral cooperation.
