—As Partisans and supporters flood Streets Ahead of Arrival

IPNEWS: massive crowd of supporters are flooding various streets of Monrovia and are now gathering at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) to welcome former Liberian President George Weah upon his highly anticipated return to Liberia.

Thousands of partisans from the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC)—often referred to as “CDCians”—mobilized in what party leaders described as a “tsunami” of support, singing, dancing, and chanting slogans.

State security forces heavily tightened measures around the airport, setting up roadblocks and establishing restricted zones. Minor clashes and serious tension erupted between CDC supporters and police officers, leading to several arrests.

Prior to his arrival, George Weah issued a message to his followers via social media, urging them to remain peaceful, follow airport protocols, and avoid provocations. Upon arrival, he emphasized his commitment to maintaining national peace and focused his immediate plans on rebuilding the CDC’s new national headquarters.

The massive reception highlights Weah’s enduring popularity as a “national hero” among ordinary Liberians despite leaving office. The demonstration of solidarity comes amidst heightened political friction and rumors regarding opposition crackdowns.

On Tuesday, supporters of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) flooded the streets of Monrovia, in anticipation of the return of former President George Weah.

Massive crowds also gathered at Roberts International Airport (RIA) and along major thoroughfares to welcome their political leader back to the country.

CDC mobilization teams spent days rallying partisans across the capital. Large groups gathered near the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) and the airport, singing and chanting slogans.

Loyalists plan to camp out and gather at Weah’s residence on 9th Street, Sinkor to guard the former president and show solidarity.

Tensions and a heavy security presence have been reported at the airport as police manage the thousands of arriving partisans. CDC leadership reported that several members were briefly detained during the setup.

Weah’s return coincides with the party’s push to rebuild its new headquarters after losing its previous location
