IPNEWS: The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) has announced plans to launch what it describes as a sustained public campaign aimed at demanding accountability and measurable outcomes in the ongoing investigation into the recent US$19.2 million suspected cocaine interception.
In a public statement, the youth organization warned that it intends to intensify public engagement and advocacy if authorities fail to produce tangible results in the investigation.
According to FLY, concerns surrounding the case extend beyond the seizure itself and raise broader questions about institutional integrity and the fight against organized crime.
The group alleged that criminal networks may be exploiting weaknesses within institutions and called for stronger enforcement measures.
FLY stated that it supports the government’s anti-drug efforts and welcomed recent legislative interest in the matter, including plans for security institutions to provide updates on the investigation.
The organization referenced the scheduled June 16 hearing involving security and enforcement institutions, including the:
* Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA)
* Ministry of Justice
* Immigration authorities
* Customs authorities
* Roberts International Airport officials
According to the group, public expectations are centered on obtaining clear information and concrete action.
FLY cautioned against allowing the case to end without visible outcomes.
“We are done watching. We are acting,” the organization stated.
The youth movement emphasized that the current situation should not be viewed only as a successful seizure but as an opportunity to address broader concerns surrounding narcotics trafficking and enforcement.
Among measures proposed by the group are:
* Publication of a prosecution roadmap by the Ministry of Justice within 30 days
* Further investigation into alleged financiers and facilitators if identified through legal processes
* Institutional accountability where evidence supports administrative action
* Public updates to maintain confidence in the process
The group also called for actions against specific individuals and for administrative measures involving personnel allegedly connected to the matter, although authorities have not publicly confirmed such allegations.
FLY argued that accountability should extend beyond public announcements and include transparent legal and investigative outcomes.
The statement comes as national attention remains focused on the ongoing investigation into the large drug seizure announced by authorities.
Government institutions have stated that investigations remain active and that additional steps may follow as evidence is developed and legal procedures continue.
The case continues to draw reactions from lawmakers, civil society groups, youth organizations, and members of the public calling for transparency, due process, and institutional accountability.
