IPNEWS: Liberia has strengthened its diplomatic presence in Europe with the official accreditation of Ambassador Genevieve A. Kennedy as the Republic of Liberia’s Ambassador to Ireland following the presentation of her Letters of Credence to Irish President Catherine Connolly.
The credential presentation ceremony took place on July 22, 2026, at Áras an Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President of Ireland.
Ambassador Kennedy presented the Letters of Credence on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., formally assuming her diplomatic responsibilities in Ireland.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Kennedy conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Boakai to President Connolly, expressing hopes for her continued good health and the prosperity of the people of Ireland.
In her remarks, Ambassador Kennedy reflected on Ireland’s longstanding support to Liberia, particularly during the country’s civil conflict.
She praised the significant role played by the Irish government and people, including the contribution of Irish peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Mission in Liberia, whose efforts helped restore peace and stability.
She also expressed gratitude for the work of Irish Aid, noting its support for Liberia’s post-conflict recovery through investments in agriculture, healthcare, gender equality, and rural development.
Ambassador Kennedy described Ireland’s continued partnership as a lasting symbol of the strong friendship between the two nations.
President Connolly accepted the Letters of Credence and extended her best wishes to President Boakai as he pursues Liberia’s national development agenda.
She reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation with Liberia.
The Irish President said Ambassador Kennedy’s accreditation represents an important milestone in the enduring friendship between the two countries.
She noted that both Liberia and Ireland remain committed to promoting peace, sustainable development, democratic governance, and shared prosperity.
Liberia and Ireland have maintained cordial bilateral relations for many years, with cooperation spanning education, health, humanitarian assistance, good governance, peacebuilding, and development initiatives.
With her formal accreditation, Ambassador Kennedy is expected to advance Liberia’s diplomatic and economic interests by promoting trade, investment, agriculture, cultural exchange, and closer collaboration with Irish government institutions and the private sector.
The ceremony also included the presentation of Letters of Credence by the ambassadors of Malaysia, Fiji, and the Dominican Republic, marking a broader diplomatic engagement hosted by President Connolly.
