IPNEWS: The Political Leader of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC), Simeon Freeman, has accused the Joseph Nyuma Boakai administration of lacking seriousness in its fight against illicit drugs and has called for the removal and prosecution of senior security officials he alleges are connected to the drug trade.
In a Facebook post, Freeman criticized the dismissal of former Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) official Gwee Forkpah, arguing that Forkpah had raised concerns about alleged high-level involvement in the illegal drug trade before his removal. Freeman called for Forkpah’s reinstatement.
He also questioned recent changes within Liberia’s security sector, particularly the apparent role of the Liberia National Police in major drug investigations, asking why such investigations were not being primarily handled by the LDEA.
Freeman further made allegations concerning the LDEA’s leadership and claimed that evidence presented by an investigative journalist supports concerns about possible links to criminal activities. He called for the dismissal and arrest of the LDEA Director, the removal and prosecution of the Inspector General of Police, and the dismissal of the Minister of Justice if the government fails to take action.
The MPC political leader said his position is not politically motivated, insisting that his concerns are based on the national interest and the need for a credible fight against illicit drugs.
Freeman warned that continued inaction by the government could eventually force Liberians to demand accountability and stronger action from the authorities
