—,Takes Steps to Enhance Power Supply at Roberts International Airport, As President Special Committee Concludes Inquiry To Avoid Reocurrance

IPNEWS: The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) says, it regrets a recent power outage that affected operations at Roberts International Airport on March 30, 2025. In a statement released by the authority, LAA expressed regret over the disruption and assured the public that it is taking steps to improve the airport’s power supply infrastructure.

The LAA acknowledged the inconvenience caused to passengers, airport staff, and other stakeholders by the unforeseen incident.

“We deeply regret the disruption this caused and fully understand the concerns that have been raised regarding the reliability of the airport’s power systems,” the statement read.

The authority also emphasized its commitment to preventing future power outages and bolstering the resilience of the airport’s electrical systems.

“We are taking decisive steps to strengthen the resilience of the airport’s power systems,” the statement continued. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of all affected parties.”

Meanwhile, a high-level committee appointed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is actively investigating the power outage at Roberts International Airport.

The committee, led by the National Security Advisor to the President, Kofi Woods, held a crucial meeting with LAA management to discuss the situation and develop comprehensive solutions for ensuring a reliable power supply at the airport moving forward.

The committee’s mission is to thoroughly examine the power crisis and offer recommendations to prevent such disruptions in the future.

During the meeting, officials discussed the specifics of the March 30 power outage, which was caused by an electrical shock affecting the transmitter line and damaging the automatic switch.

“The committee’s role is to thoroughly investigate the power crisis and provide a detailed report and action plan to President Boakai,” said Kofi Woods.

“We are committed to working closely with the Liberia Airport Authority to address the challenges and ensure that the airport’s power supply is stable and reliable.”

The meeting was part of the committee’s broader mandate to assess the technical issues surrounding the power outage and collaborate with both the Liberia Airport Authority and the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to address them.

A joint session of the Senate Committee on Hydrocarbons, Energy, and Environment was also held on April 2, 2025, where the LAA and LEC reiterated their commitment to resolving the issue.

The investigation committee’s findings are expected to lead to immediate corrective actions, with long-term solutions in the works to prevent any future disruptions at Roberts International Airport.

The Liberia Airport Authority, alongside the investigation committee, is already in the process of implementing measures to repair the damaged infrastructure, aiming to guarantee uninterrupted operations at the airport moving forward.

As the investigation continues, LAA officials have reassured the public that resolving the power supply issues is a priority, with significant improvements set to take place in the coming months.
