IPNEWS:In a statement issued in Monrovia on Sunday, day, January 26, 2025, the North Central Alliance (NCA), a regional citizen movement representing Gbarpolu, Bong, Lofa, Margibi, and Nimba Counties, has strongly opposed the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC)’s allegations against the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
The NCA refutes claims from the CDC that the current government is utilizing state security to silence opposition voices.
The CDC has accused President Boakai of engaging in political persecution, warning that any arrest of lawmakers affiliated with the party, particularly in connection with a recent fire incident at the Capitol Building, would lead to a collective response from the party.
Responding to these accusations, NCA’s National President, Atty. Jamah Allison Barco characterized the CDC Chairman’s threats as “unfortunate,” “unnationalistic,” and “unpatriotic.”
Atty. Barco condemned such remarks, suggesting they reflect a desire to plunge the nation into chaos and lawlessness.
Moreover, the NCA criticized Atty. Janga Kowo’s statement regarding collective arrest argues that it indicates the CDC’s detachment from legal principles and amounts to inciting anarchy.
The organization emphasized that the fire incident at the Capitol Building constitutes a serious violation of the law and called on all Liberians to support the application of justice for the incident’s perpetrators.
The NCA expects the CDC to encourage the government to enforce the law impartially and without bias while holding accountable those responsible for the Capitol fire rather than shielding alleged offenders.
The NCA is meanwhile urging the government to take necessary legal actions against those involved in the Capitol fire, emphasizing that such actions must be devoid of political manipulation and deceitful tactics.
