The University of Liberia (UL) and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) have launched a landmark partnership to overhaul bathroom facilities across UL’s Capitol Hill, Fendall, and Health Sciences campuses.
In a high-level meeting today, UL President Dr. Layli Maparyan and LWSC Managing Director Hon. Mo Ali, alongside Deputy Director for Technical Services, Patrick Sandikie, finalized the collaboration following LWSC’s recent water and sanitation assessments.
“This is a partnership for progress. LWSC stands ready to ensure UL campuses receive the water and sanitation infrastructure they deserve,” Said MD Ali.
Key elements of the partnership include:
Rehabilitation of wells, installation of new boreholes, water storage facilities, plumbing, and modern bathroom fixtures.
UL will provide renovation materials, funded by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
LWSC will connect Capitol Hill to Monrovia’s water and sewer grid and expand wells at Fendall.
Labor will be shared between LWSC experts, UL’s Plant Operations Department (POD), and a new UL technical taskforce.
Work begins this week. Ahead of construction, Interim Vice President for Administration, Mr. Sehmah R. Jallah, has directed POD, led by Mr. Jefferson Walker, to clean all bathrooms to prepare the spaces.
“This is the collaboration we have been waiting for,” Dr. Maparyan remarked. “Finally, UL students, faculty, staff, and visitors will have dignified facilities befitting the nation’s flagship university,” she continued.
