President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., on Sunday, July 19, 2026, joined fellow Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in a series of symbolic activities highlighting regional unity and integration during the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority in Lungi, Sierra Leone.

As part of the official opening activities, President Boakai participated in the planting of the Tree of Regional Integration, a symbolic initiative led by the former Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The Tree of Regional Integration represents Pillar Three of the ECOWAS Vision 2050, which focuses on Economic Integration. It reflects the Community’s commitment to strengthening regional trade, improving connectivity, promoting shared prosperity, and advancing sustainable development across West Africa.

President Boakai also joined his fellow regional leaders in the ceremonial signing of the ECOWAS Unity Wall, a landmark feature commemorating the Summit and symbolizing the collective aspirations of Member States for a more united, peaceful, and prosperous West Africa.

The Unity Wall stands as a lasting expression of regional solidarity and cooperation, reflecting the shared determination of ECOWAS Member States to promote peace, stability, democratic governance, and deeper regional integration.

The symbolic activities formed part of the official opening of the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority, which has brought together Heads of State and Government to deliberate on regional peace and security, economic integration, infrastructure development, and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening the regional bloc.

President Boakai’s participation reflects Liberia’s continued engagement in regional affairs and its support for initiatives that promote cooperation, economic growth, and shared prosperity across West Africa. It also aligns with his national agenda to advance reconciliation, unity, and inclusive development, recognizing that a peaceful and integrated region is essential to Liberia’s long-term progress.
