IPNEWS: Ever since rumors emerged that the Liberia National Police was considering a USD $5.00 as fine forpedestrians violating for a first-time crosswalk, and warned that failure or refusal to pay the citation can result in arrest and subsequent legal detention.
The Monrovia City Police have recently stepped up the enforcement campaign by repainting major crosswalks across the Monrovia and its environs.
The restriction states that any Pedestrians caught jaywalking or crossing major roads outside marked crosswalks face a $5 USD fine.
The Police also notes that Direct arrest is reserved for individuals who outrightly fail or refuse to pay the issued citation.
The penalty strictly applies to areas where a crosswalk is clearly marked and visible. If no crosswalk is available, pedestrians may cross carefully after ensuring traffic has stopped.
The restriction further states that Motorists are simultaneously required to yield and stop for pedestrians using these designated paths. Failing to do so is a severe traffic infraction.

The restriction will also look out for fraudulent driver’s Licenses, with Fines up to $5,000 USD or 3 years in prison, while uninsured vehicles shall be Fined up to $1,000 USD or 1 year in prison.
The Police restriction also states that Driving Without a License, shall serve Fines up to $500 USD or 6 months in prison, and Overloaded Vehicles shall getFines up to $500 USD or 6 months in prison.
