IPNEWS: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., will this morning depart Liberia for Lungi, Sierra Leone, to participate in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) 69th Mid-Year Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The Summit will bring together Leaders of the ECOWAS Member States to review the state of regional integration, peace and security, economic cooperation, democratic governance, and other issues affecting the sub-region.

President Boakai will join his regional counterparts in deliberating on matters aimed at strengthening cooperation among Member States and advancing collective responses to the opportunities and challenges facing West Africa.

The President’s participation reflects Liberia’s continued engagement in regional affairs and its support for ECOWAS’ efforts to promote peace, stability, economic growth, and sustainable development across the sub-region.

While in Sierra Leone, President Boakai is expected to hold bilateral engagements on the margins of the Summit with fellow Heads of State and development partners to discuss issues of mutual interest and cooperation.

The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of State without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility, National Security Advisor Samuel K. Woods, II, Ambassador-at-Large Charles Snetter, and Investment Commission Chairman Morley Kamara. The President is expected to return to Liberia today following the conclusion of the Summit.

While President Boakai is away, Honorable Samuel A. Stevquoah, will chair the Cabinet in consultation with the Vice President while remaining in close contact with the President.
