President Joseph N. Boakai, has, with immediate effect, accepted the resignation of Madam Karishma Pelham-Raad from her position as Assistant Minister for International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The former Assistant Minister, in her quitting message, extended her gratitude for the opportunity afforded her to serve.
Little is known about reasons why madam Raad resigned. However, the Verity Newspaper quoting several sources reports that She resigned due to alleged “Gross Insubordination” and “Power Play” according to multiple sources in the Executive Mansion who spoke to Verity News on conditions of anonymity.
Th e paper quoting multiple inside sources at the Executive Mansion and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, states that the working relationship between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madam Sara Frances Beysolow Nyanti, and the Assistant Minister for International Organizations, Madam Karishma Pelham-Raad, turned sour since June 2025 when Liberia was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
With Karishma Pelham-Raad getting more public attention and closely aligning with powerful figures like the late Sylvester Grigsby, the Minister proper reportedly warned and accused Assistant Minister Karishma Pelham-Raad of attempting to take personal glory; thereby shifting more attention on her individual role or contribution instead of the ministry’s collective role.
Assistant Minister Pelham-Raad then wrote Minister Sara Frances Beysolow Nyanti a letter which she Nyanti claimed was “very insultive and disrespectful”. Since then, the two public officials have not been in good terms.
Minister Nyanti filed a formal complaint to President Boakai, accusing Assistant Minister of “Gross Insubordination,” and insisting that she can no longer work with Assistant Minister Karishma Pelham-Raad.
“Either I leave as a Minister and she stays or She leaves and I stay.”
Last Saturday, September 6, 2025, President Boakai mandated the Deputy Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, now Minister of State-Designate Samuel A. Stevequoah, to fire Pelham-Raad with immediate effect if she does not resign.
Based on this presidential mandate, Assistant Minister Pelham-Raad had to quit the job by tendering her letter of resignation. Today, President accepted her resignation even though she has been suspended since September 3, 2025.
