IPNEWS: The National Chairman of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, has announced the expulsion of Nimba County Senator Samuel Gongbehn Kogar from the party.
Chairman Kruah disclosed that the decision was reached after a majority of MDR members voted in favor of expelling the senator.
Following the announcement, Kruah instructed that Senator Kogar’s photograph displayed at the party’s headquarters be removed immediately.
He further ordered the senator to turn over all party properties in his possession, including the symbolic red cap.
According to the MDR Chairman, Senator Kogar’s expulsion was based on his actions deemed to be in opposition to the government that the MDR supports.
Meanwhile, Nimba County Senator Samuel G. Kogar has denounced his expulsion from the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), describing it as a government‑backed effort to silence him without due process.
In a Facebook post on his official page Senator Kogar raised alarm over the heavy police presence, which he said creates “the appearance of intimidation” and undermines legitimate political expression protected under Liberian law.
“Liberia is a country governed by law. Any action taken against me outside the proper legal and constitutional process will be challenged through the appropriate legal means,” Kogar declared.
The senator called on the international community, civil society, media, and the Liberian people to closely monitor developments at the MDR headquarters.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peace, the rule of law, and democratic process, stressing that attempts to suppress dissent will not deter him.
