Senator Amara Konneh Wants Full Disclosure Over Justice-Police Vehicle Controversy

IPNEWS: Gbarpolu County Senator Amara Konneh has challenged Liberia’s Justice Minister, Cllr. Oswald Tweh, and Police Inspector General, Gregory Coleman, to publicly release all ownership and procurement records for vehicles acquired from the United States and the Netherlands.

Senator Konneh’s demand stems from circulating public rumors and allegations. These include reports of police vehicles purchased from Minnesota, luxury SUVs assigned to government officials, and vehicles registered to private individuals that are allegedly being driven by security chiefs.

To provide complete transparency amid Liberia’s widening drug-trafficking investigation, Konneh requested that the Joint Security Task Force compile and publish a single, comprehensive “press pack” containing the following four key documents such as Public Procurement and Concessions Commission authorizations for any vehicles purchased using Government of Liberia (GOL) funds, in compliance with PFM laws, Official asset tracking records from the General Services Agency., Explicated payment financial trails from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, and Customs and import tax exemption clearances from the Liberia Revenue Authority.

Senator Konneh emphasized that releasing these documents is critical to ensuring the state’s multi-million-dollar cocaine prosecution remains ironclad. He argued that if the vehicles are legitimately government-owned assets, these documents will fully exonerate the police force and restore damaged public trust in state security agencies.

Conversely, he warned that unresolved questions about luxury vehicles could heavily compromise the state’s integrity in court. He cautioned that if inconsistencies are not fixed immediately, defense lawyers will exploit these evidentiary gaps to destroy the government’s drug trafficking case during future legal proceedings.
