IPNEWS: ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has promoted Liberian Mining Engineer Momo B. Moore to the role of Deputy General Manager for Mines, one of the most senior operational leadership roles in the company. This demonstrates AML’s long held commitment to developing local workforce capacity and advancing Liberians into executive operational role within the business.

The elevation of Mr. Moore who ArcelorMittal Liberia as an entry-level contract supervisor in 2018, highlights AML’s strategic focus on internal career progression, technical mentorship, and national leadership development across its mining operations.

Starting as a University of Liberia graduate working for third-party contracting firms, Moore systematically built his operational expertise across major project milestones, including the successful commissioning of the Yuelliton haulage ramp project in 2022 and leading site development for the new concentrator crushing plant at Tokadeh.

His technical performance and leadership consistency led to his direct recruitment into AML as Mine Superintendent before his current appointment to the executive management team.

Official announcements from leadership praised Moore’s advancement as a key benchmark for the company’s localization goals.

Handing over the official job description during the promotion ceremony, AML Chief Operating Officer (COO) Anthony P. Kocken commended Moore’s technical capacity.

“You’ve got all the necessary skills to be very successful in the role. I want to give you all of the support and congratulate you as the Deputy General Manager for Mines,” Kocken stated.

AML General Manager for Mines, Jallah Selma, expressed pride in Moore’s progression, emphasizing his broader impact on the workforce:

“Today, I’m super happy and super proud that we can take this direction, and I think there is more to come. This is going to send out a very big message to a lot of Liberians who are sitting back to take another step forward, that there is an opportunity to grow with ArcelorMittal Liberia. This is a symbol for almost all Liberians in every department,” Selmah said.

Commenting on his milestone promotion, Moore described his journey as a testament to the corporate culture fostered within the enterprise:

“My elevation to this position shows that ArcelorMittal Liberia is a responsible company that seeks the betterment of Liberians to grow and develop in leadership positions. It shows that ArcelorMittal is a company that lives by its word,” Moore said.

“The mantra of ArcelorMittal is Transforming Tomorrow, and I am a clear example of that. ArcelorMittal has transformed my entire life and given me opportunities I never thought possible at this stage in my career.”

He credited internal mentorship, rigorous performance standards, and an inclusive work culture for accelerating his professional trajectory:

“ArcelorMittal has created a multicultural and diversified environment where you can freely express yourself, learn, and develop at a very fast pace,” Moore added.

“When you work hard, remain disciplined, maintain high integrity, and stay open to learning, you can grow here. Without ArcelorMittal, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Moore’s promotion comes as ArcelorMittal Liberia continues to advance its Phase II expansion projects, placing direct emphasis on national talent retention, technical upskilling, and senior-level management placement for Liberian professionals across its Yekepa and Buchanan operations.
