IPNEWS: In a concerted effort to enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents, the Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the National Road Fund, has initiated a comprehensive training program targeting motorcyclists across Nimba, Bong, and Margibi Counties. This initiative commenced on February 18, 2025, in Ganta, Nimba County, continued on February 19 in Gbarnga, Bong County, and concluded on February 20 in Kakata City, Margibi County.

During the opening ceremony in Ganta, the Ministry of Transport Assistant Minister for Land and Rail Transport, Zunu Dyann, emphasized the critical role of motorcyclists in promoting road safety. He urged participants to engage earnestly in the training, highlighting their potential impact on community well-being. Minister Dyann also announced that certificates and helmets would be awarded to those who successfully complete the program, underscoring the government’s commitment to equipping riders with essential safety gear.

The training curriculum focused on educating motorcyclists about adhering to traffic regulations and adopting cautious riding practices to safeguard lives. By instilling a culture of responsibility and awareness, the program is to significantly reduce the incidence of road accidents involving motorcycles.

This initiative is fully sponsored by the National Road Fund, reflecting a strategic investment in the safety and efficiency of Liberia’s transportation network. The collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and the National Road Fund exemplifies a proactive approach to addressing road safety challenges, particularly among motorcyclists who constitute a substantial segment of road users.

The government’s dedication to road safety is further evidenced by previous campaigns and training sessions. Notably, in October 2023, the Ministry of Transport distributed helmets to motorcycle operators in Bong, Nimba, and Margibi counties, aiming to ensure safe and efficient motorcycle transport services across Liberia.

As the current training program progresses, it is anticipated that the knowledge imparted will empower motorcyclists to become advocates for road safety within their communities, fostering a safer and more responsible riding environment throughout the nation.
