IPNEWS: er president extended Unification Day greetings to the Liberian people, while also sharing details of a brief exchange with current President Joseph Boakai.
According to Weah, he received a missed call from an unknown number earlier in the morning, followed by a text message from President Boakai conveying Unification Day greetings and a call for national unity.
Weah stated that he responded in kind, also wishing the president a happy Unification Day. He noted, however, that this was their first communication since January 2024.
“I iterate that true unification is not based on superficial political gimmicks, but on the rule of law and constitutional order,” Weah emphasized. He urged President Boakai to “respect the rule of law, respect past and present political leaders, and uphold the sanctity of our hard-fought democratic institutions and processes” as essential pillars for fostering genuine unity in Liberia.
The former president concluded his statement with a prayerful message: “May God Bless Liberia.”
Unification Day, observed annually on May 14, commemorates efforts to bridge Liberia’s historical divides and promote national cohesion.
Weah’s remarks are seen as a reminder of the ongoing need for political reconciliation and institutional integrity in the country’s democratic journey.
