As part of efforts to improve the human capacity of its workers, the Management of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation through the Health and Safety Department has trained and certificated fifty-three (53) of its employees in various disciplines. The workers, mainly from the Underground Department, acquired skills in Mixer, Minetruck, Platform and Emulsion Machine Training.
Speaking on 30th August 2025, the Operations Manager of BMMC Mr. Engin Turhan stated that regular training for the employees is very important because it helps to improve their skills. He emphasizes that vocational training and safety are utmost priority for BMMC. And BMMC will continue to provide vocational training for its employees that will contribute to Liberia’s future in terms of skilled manpower.
“As a Company, BMMC will continue to provide these kinds of trainings for our staff. I want to thank those who joined hands together to ensure the success of this training, especially the Health and Safety Department, and to our workers who took advantage of the training opportunities.
At the same time, the Operations Manager of BMMC used the opportunity to admonish employees to utilize the skills they have acquired over the period.
Making remarks during the certification program, Health and Safety Manager Shadrach Fahnbulleh said “It is my honor today to stand before you as we celebrate this milestone, the celebration of our vocational trainees. This ceremony is more than the handing out of certificates, as you may know, it is the recognition of growth, commitment, and the pursuit of excellence. Within a period of one year that BMMC has made a remarkable progress.”
According to Mr. Fahnbulleh, 600 employees have been trained in various vocational disciplines, while 4,000 people have received health and safety specific training; something he described as a plus for the Mine.
In his address, the Health and Safety Manager also spoke about what he calls “building a culture of competence” among the workforce which he says has created a responsibility to individuals, and safety in the workplace.
He continues: “come in the next one year, we are confident that these achievements will double as we continue to invest in our employees. Because when we invest in the people, we invest in safety; when we invest in people, we invest also in productivity and invest in our future as a company”.
Mr. Fahnbulleh on behalf of the Health and Safety Team thanked facilitators of the training and extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Management of BMMC for the continued support.
Representing the Minister of Labor was Grand Cape Mount County Labor Commissioner John S. Sheriff who thanked BMMC for always providing training opportunities for its employees.
“On behalf of Honorable Cooper Kruah, Minister of Labor of the Republic of Liberia, I bring you greetings, I’m pleased to say that the Government of Liberia is proud of you BMMC for what we are witnessing for the second time today. So, with much I do, guys please put these trainings and certificates to test, take them as a livelihood for yourselves, for your respective families, for Liberia and the world at large”
For his part, the Workers Union Chairman of BMMC Paul Wah thanked and appreciated the Company for its continuous efforts in refining the skills of local workers.
“Firstly, I will take this time to extend thanks and appreciations to BMMC. This is the second certification since I got elected as Chairman of the Workers Union. BMMC has been making it possible to impact knowledge into Liberians and we hope this won’t be the last.” BMMC’s Workers Union Chairman Paul Wah told the gathering.
Chairman Wah further encouraged the Company’s Management to continue rolling out trainings of these kinds for the Liberian workers describing it as the surest treasures that the Company can leave with Liberians.
This is not the first time for BMMC to certificate trained local workers. It can be recalled, during the first quarters of this year, BMMC trained and certificated 500 local workers in separate disciplines. Mine Rescue, Mine Survey, Excavator, Loader, Dozer, Grater Operators, among other disciplines formed part of the first quarters certification at the Camp David Recreation Center.
