IPNEWS: The 53rd Meeting of the Technical Committee of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM), Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in Monrovia.

The meeting is part of the Joint Statutory Meetings of the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ), which are being hosted in the Liberia from February 4–13, 2026, the Farmington Hotel, located at Roberts International Airport (RIA).

The Government of Liberia, primarily through the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

Senior officials from member central banks (typically directors of research, international economic relations, and human resources) and representatives from Ministries of Finance.

The WAIFEM Technical Committee meeting serves as a foundational component of the broader statutory sessions that include the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA), the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), and ECOWAS. Primary focus areas include:

Advancing regional integration and technical preparations for the proposed “Eco” currency.

Assisting the WAIFEM Board of Governors in formulating policy directions and reviewing the institute’s training programs and budgets.

Evaluating progress in macroeconomic management, debt management, and financial sector development within the sub-region.

This gathering marks a significant period of regional leadership for Liberia, following the 53rd WAMZ Convergence Council meetings held in Sierra Leone in early 2025.
