IPNEWS: The Environmental Eyes Consultancy and Advocacy Firm Inc. (EECAF) is calling on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to urgently submit a Climate Change Act to the National Legislature for immediate passage.
EECAF emphasizes that this legislative action is essential to grant full legal legitimacy and continuity to the proposed Carbon Market Authority (CMA), ensuring its operations extend beyond the temporary scope of an Executive Order.
While commending the EPA for its proactive climate initiatives, EECAF warns that the one-year lifespan of executive orders leaves critical environmental programs vulnerable to policy reversals and administrative disruptions.
Environmental Expert and Executive Director of EECAF, Mr. Matthew Sieh Wisseh, described the proposed Climate Change Act as a turning point for Liberia’s environmental future. He noted that, Without a clear legislative framework, Liberia risks losing millions in potential carbon credit investments and global partnerships that depend on predictable, law-based governance.
Mr. Wisseh further explained that a statutory Climate Change Act will institutionalize Liberia’s climate governance framework, provide a stable legal foundation for carbon market operations, and attract long-term investment in sustainable development.
EECAF therefore urges both the EPA and the National Legislature to act without delay in enacting the Climate Change Act, a decisive move that will secure the future of the Carbon Market Authority and affirm Liberia’s unwavering commitment to climate resilience, economic innovation, and environmental justice.
