IPNEWS: President Joseph N. Boakai has officially launched the construction of a state-of-the-art Ministry of Justice Complex, marking a major step forward in the government’s agenda to strengthen Liberia’s justice and security architecture.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, on a 4.8-acre parcel of land strategically located near the Executive Mansion on Capitol Hill.
The modern complex will serve as a centralized hub for key justice and law enforcement institutions, including the Ministry of Justice, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS).
Speaking at the ceremony, President Boakai underscored his administration’s commitment to sustainable public infrastructure and responsible use of national resources.
He emphasized that government facilities must reflect national pride, professionalism, and efficiency, while also reducing long-term operational costs.
“We are determined to construct and maintain our own public buildings so we can end the heavy burden of rental expenses on government resources,” President Boakai said.
He noted that housing justice and security institutions in one complex will enhance coordination, safeguard vital documents and improve service delivery to the Liberian people.
The President cited the existing Ministerial Complex as a model of order, cleanliness and institutional responsibility, urging revenue-generating agencies to uphold similar standards in maintaining public facilities.
Grand Gedeh County Senator Thomas Nemely hailed the project as historic, commending the President and the Ministry of Justice for prioritizing infrastructure development that will benefit future generations.
Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan disclosed that the project is fully funded by the Government of Liberia through the national budget, with an initial allocation of US$20 million.
He described the investment as evidence of the Boakai administration’s resolve to translate policy vision into concrete action.
Justice Minister and Attorney General Oswald Tweh welcomed the initiative, describing the complex as transformative for the justice and security sector.
According to him, the facility will significantly improve inter-agency collaboration, operational efficiency and the overall administration of justice nationwide.
The Ministry of Justice Complex stands as a powerful symbol of the Boakai administration’s commitment to the rule of law, fiscal responsibility, institutional strengthening and long-term national development.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, representatives of private institutions, community leaders, women leaders and youth groups, reflecting broad national support for the landmark project.
