IPNEWS: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., yesterday, Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, received in audience the President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Honorable Justice Ricardo Claudio Monteiro Gonçalves, at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.

Justice Gonçalves led a high-powered delegation comprising the Vice President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, the Chief Registrar, and the Director of Administration and Finance.

The delegation is in Liberia as part of an outreach and sensitization mission aimed at increasing public awareness of the Court’s mandate, jurisprudence, and operations within the ECOWAS subregion.

In his remarks, Justice Gonçalves disclosed that the delegation will engage with law students, civil society actors, and members of the legal community to enhance understanding of the Court’s role in promoting justice and upholding the rule of law across member states.

President Boakai warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed Liberia’s unwavering commitment to the principles and instruments of ECOWAS. He emphasized that Liberia remains dedicated to honoring decisions and protocols emanating from the Court, stating, “We believe in ECOWAS.”

The President further informed the delegation that the Government of Liberia has established a communication mechanism to educate Liberians on the role and functions of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, ensuring that citizens are better informed about the regional judicial body’s work and its impact on member states.

The ECOWAS Court of Justice serves as the principal legal organ of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), responsible for interpreting and applying the provisions of the ECOWAS Treaty and other legal instruments adopted by the regional body.
