IPNEWS: The Chairman of the ruling Unity Party (UP), Rev. Luther Tarpeh, has vowed that the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) will never return to power in Liberia as long as he remains head of the Unity Party.

Rev. Tarpeh made the declaration during an interview on the “OK Conversation” program in Monrovia, where he spoke about the party’s strength, discipline, and renewed commitment to good governance under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership.

“As long as I remain Chairman of the Unity Party, the CDC will never win elections in Liberia. In fact, they are really good in opposition,” Rev. Tarpeh asserted, sparking loud applause from supporters who attended the live broadcast.

The UP Chairman also announced that December 6, 2025, will be marked as what he described as “the day of war against rent payment,” signaling the party’s plan to end its dependence on rented offices and move toward owning its own headquarters.

“December 6, 2025, is the day we stop paying money to rent properties for party use,” he said. “Under President Boakai, nobody will steal government money to build a party headquarters.”

Rev. Tarpeh emphasized that the Unity Party’s operations and policies are grounded in transparency, accountability, and service to the nation, rather than personal enrichment or corruption.

He described the UP as a party of “vision and intellect,” boasting that it is home to Liberia’s brightest and most capable citizens.

“We have the best brains in this country  the finest intellectuals. The Unity Party has them,” he said. “We are not copying from the CDC; the CDC is copying from us.”

Rev. Tarpeh’s statements come amid rising political rhetoric between the ruling Unity Party and the opposition CDC, as both groups begin to position themselves ahead of the next general and presidential elections.

Political observers say the UP chairman’s bold remarks reflect the party’s growing confidence and determination to strengthen its grassroots support while advancing President Boakai’s ARREST development agenda.

In response to the Unity Party Chairman’s assertion, Former Montserrado County District #8 Representative and senior member of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Acarous Moses Gray, has sharply responded to recent remarks by Unity Party (UP) Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh, declaring that the CDC will reclaim state power in the next general and presidential elections.

In a swift response on Tuesday, Mr. Gray, a prominent CDC figure and former lawmaker, described the Unity Party as “worst at governance,” predicting that the ruling establishment will face a historic defeat in 2029.

“As a CDC Frontline General, I want to remind the Chairman of the Unity Party that his institution is worst at governance,” Gray said. “They will be the first ruling party since 1997 to receive an unpleasant, democratic, and devastating first-round defeat without a runoff election.”

He further declared that the CDC is poised to secure a first-round absolute majority victory in 2029, signaling confidence in the party’s political resurgence.

“The CDC will be the party to obtain that first-round absolute majority victory come 2029,” Gray emphasized.

Concluding his remarks with a literary reference, Gray told Rev. Tarpeh:

“Mr. Chairman, we shall meet at the Battle of Philippi.”

The statement by the former Montserrado lawmaker adds to a series of sharp exchanges between the two parties, underscoring the polarized political atmosphere that continues to shape Liberia’s emerging democracy. “CDC Will Never Win Elections Under My Watch,” Says UP Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh
