Liberia Amputee to Get Support from Liberian-born Athlete in US

Melvin Mvp Coleman, a Liberian-born member of the United States Amputee National Team for the 2026 Amputee World Cup, has announced plans through Benita Whitney Urey to make a donation to the Liberia amputee football program.

Coleman, who attended Child Development Academy [CDA] in Monrovia and played on the school’s basketball team in the early 2000s, was diagnosed with cancer several years ago. He later underwent treatment in the United States, which resulted in the amputation of one of his limbs.

Despite the setback, Coleman continued his athletic journey and now plays for the USA national amputee men’s team and he is also a well known bicyclist across the United States.

He said he intends to give back to Liberia by supporting the national amputee team and will make a donation within the next three months.

“I owe a lot to Liberia,” Coleman said. “This is my way of giving back and helping others rise through sports.”
