IPNEWS: The Liberia National Police (LNP) has forwarded to court defendant Sembeh Borhay for allegedly impersonating Minister Sylvester M. Grigsby, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs.

Defendant Borhay was arrested on December 30, 2024, based on a complaint filed by Emmanuel Jallah on behalf of Minister Grigsby. The investigation revealed that Borhay, along with his accomplice, Cyrus Doe, organized a criminal scheme.

The police investigation established that the defendants created fake Facebook and WhatsApp pages to communicate with people, requesting US$13,000 in exchange for appointed government positions.

The defendants were caught after extorting over US$15,000 from Prince Tamba, Deputy Minister for Operations at the Ministry of Public Works. They claimed Minister Grigsby needed cash for his office staff for the festive season. When Minister Tamba requested to hand the money over to Mary Matthew, the Chief of Office staff at Minister Grigsby’s office, the defendants instructed him otherwise.

During the police investigation, Borhay denied any criminal involvement, claiming that it was his accomplice, Cyrus Doe, who sent him to Old Road to collect the money. Cyrus Doe remains at large.

The defendants have been charged with theft of property, criminal conspiracy, and criminal facilitation, and are awaiting trial
