IPNEWS: The National WASH Commission over the weekend convened stakeholders for the national validation of Liberia’s first WASH Account Report, aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and evidence-based planning in the country’s water, sanitation and hygiene sector.
Delivering the keynote statement, CEO of the National WASH Commission, Hon. George WK Yarngo, emphasized that WASH services are fundamental to public health, human dignity, education and national development.
The report provides a clearer picture of how WASH resources are mobilized, allocated and spent, while identifying where investments are going, who is benefiting and where critical financing gaps remain. It is expected to help stakeholders improve coordination, reduce duplication and direct limited resources toward areas of greatest need.
The validation meeting reviewed the WASH Account methodology and key findings, including total WASH expenditure, sources of financing, sector and geographic distribution, and equity in WASH investments.
The CEO stressed that the validation should not be the end of the process, but the beginning of stronger data use, accountability and strategic investment.
He urged stakeholders to translate the findings into practical action, saying the report should serve as a guide for budgeting, planning, resource mobilization and improved WASH services for the people of Liberia.
Let this final validation be a turning point, one that moves us from evidence to action, from planning to investment, and from commitments to results.”
