IPNEWS: The Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Maritime and Judiciary to launch a full-scale investigation into allegations of assault and unlawful suspension of employees assigned at the Samuel Alfred Ross Port of Greenville, Sinoe County.

The decision was reached on Tuesday during the 5th Day Sitting of the 4th Session, following a formal communication submitted by Sinoe County Electoral District #2 Representative, Hon. Alex S. Noah. In his communication, Hon. Noah requested the indulgence of Plenary to invite the Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Hon. Sekou Hussein Dukuly, to provide justification for the alleged beating, humiliation, and indefinite suspension of several port workers.

According to Representative Noah, the affected employees, who are his constituents from Sinoe County District #3 and stationed at the Samuel Alfred Ross Port, reported that they were allegedly flogged and publicly disgraced on the job site under the instructions of the Port Director. He further described the situation as appalling and unacceptable.

โ€œIn this age and time, it is dehumanizing and a gross violation of basic human rights for employees to be assaulted, humiliated, and subsequently suspended without due process by their senior managers,โ€ Hon. Noah stressed. He added that such actions undermine national labor standards and contradict the principles of equality and fairness in the workplace.

Plenary agreed that the allegations require urgent scrutiny, and therefore instructed the Committees on Maritime and Judiciary to thoroughly probe the matter, engage the relevant authorities, and submit their findings and recommendations within two weeks.

The House of Representatives reaffirms its unwavering commitment to ensuring the protection of workersโ€™ rights and maintaining accountability across all public institutions.
