Partnerships and investment prospects underway for Liberia’s capital

IPNEWS: The Mayor of Monrovia has returned to the country with a renewed focus on technology-driven urban development following his participation in the 34th International Mayors Conference, held from November 16–20 in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel.

The forum, organized by the American Jewish Congress, gathered dozens of mayors and municipal leaders from across the world to explore new approaches to smart governance, economic growth, and Artificial Intelligence–powered city solutions.

According to the Mayor, the engagements provided firsthand exposure to Israel’s rapidly advancing innovation ecosystem — particularly the role AI plays in reshaping public services, job creation, and youth entrepreneurship.

“We saw technologies that are redefining what is possible in modern urban life,” he said. “What stood out for me is how AI is being used to empower youth through entrepreneurship, unlocking new skills and scalable opportunities.”

During the week-long mission, the delegation held high-level meetings with officials including the mayors of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Sderot, as well as Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, and the President.

The Mayor emphasized that the trip has begun to yield tangible benefits for Monrovia.

He disclosed that an exploratory delegation of potential investors, who expressed interest in priority economic sectors, is expected to visit Liberia soon as part of follow-up engagements initiated during the conference.

He also announced progress on a bilateral partnership with the City of Entebbe, Uganda.

“Particular hats off to the Mayor of Entebbe a city with which we have agreed to enter a twinning partnership,” he added, noting this collaboration will focus on municipal strengthening, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Reflecting on the experience, the Mayor said that cities like Monrovia must embrace innovation as a development tool:

“We live in an era of profound transformation one in which we must refuse to be defined by our challenges, and instead rise to the extraordinary potential this moment offers.”

He extended gratitude to Jack and Dan Rosen of the American Jewish Congress, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and fellow mayors who participated in the conference for what he described as a rewarding and forward-looking engagement.

As Monrovia continues its pursuit of modernization and citizen-centered service delivery, the Mayor expressed confidence that the new partnerships forged in Israel will contribute to shaping a smarter, more inclusive future for Liberia’s capital city.
