IPNEWS: The Office of the Vice President of the Republic of Liberia Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung has rejected allegations made by journalist Rodney Sieh on Spoon TV on Monday night suggesting an association between the Vice President and an individual allegedly linked to drug-related activities.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Vice President said he does not know the man identified as “Anthony,” who was seen with him in a group photo referenced during the broadcast.
“As Vice President, I do take photos with many individuals at public and private events,” the statement read. “I do not know Anthony, and the photo taken does not suggest my knowledge of any personal dealings he may be involved with.”
The Vice President described the allegation as misleading and said the circulation of group photographs should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any individual’s character or activities.
He further reaffirmed the government’s stance against drug trafficking and abuse. Referencing the November 24, 2025 arrest of Clifford Payne, an official of the Group of 77, in connection with a suspected drug case, the Vice President said his position remains unchanged.
“I still maintain that if my wife, children, relatives, friends, political associates, and employees, are connected to any drug related activities, they should face the full weight of the law,” he stated.
The statement concluded with appreciation to the public for continued support.
The allegation aired on Spoon TV last night has generated discussion on social media, with calls for public officials to be transparent about their associations amid ongoing national concerns about drug trafficking in Liberia.
As of press time, Rodney Sieh and Spoon TV have not issued a response to the Vice President’s denial.
The Liberia National Police and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency continue to lead the government’s campaign against illicit drugs, with several high-profile arrests made in the past year.
