IPNEWS: The Minister of Public Works, Roland Layfette Giddings, and his team from the Ministry were warmly received in District 7, specifically in the Township of West Point, during an official “Thank You Program” organized by the community. The event was filled with gratitude to the Minister, the Ministry, and the Presidency for the recently completed Solar Light Project that has transformed the community.
Introducing the program, the Commissioner of the Township of West Point, Mr. McPherson Dagbeh, welcomed the attendees and set the tone for the celebration.
District 7 Lawmaker, Mr. Emmanuel Dahn, welcomed officials from the Ministry of Public Works in addition to the Commissioner’s previous comment. He expressed deep appreciation to Minister Giddings and his team for prioritizing the district. Reflecting on prior discussions with both the Minister and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., he hailed Minister Giddings for being a “Talk & Do” leader. He, however, encouraged the community to take ownership of the project, emphasizing that it has brought new life to West Point by enhancing safety and value.
Deputy Minister Samukai Dunnoh and Assistant Minister Abraham Rahim Bility also shared their reflections, recalling the Minister’s dedication to ensuring that the Township of West Point benefited from the project. They noted how the Minister had repeatedly emphasized the importance of lighting up the community and described West Point as being central to the government’s development agenda.
In his closing remarks, Minister Giddings expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the people of West Point and assured them of the government’s commitment to their well-being. He highlighted President Boakai’s directive to prioritize underprivileged communities like West Point, Sonniwein, and Clara Town. The Minister reminded the residents that the solar light project is just one of many initiatives planned for the township.
He also shared updates on upcoming projects, including efforts to address sea erosion along the coastline and the long-awaited road project that is set to begin in 2025. He informed the community that engineers would arrive the following week to commence road assessments. Minister Giddings urged the residents to take ownership of the solar lights by protecting and maintaining them, emphasizing that their care for these initiatives would encourage the government to bring more development projects to their community.
As the program concluded and evening fell, the streets of West Point lit up, symbolizing a new era for the township. The residents, filled with joy, expressed their gratitude, chanting, “Thank you, President Boakai! Thank you, Minister Giddings! We are no longer rushing home after 6 PM because our streets are bright and safe.”
The “Thank You Program” was a testament to the positive impact of the solar light project and the collaborative efforts of the government and community leaders to bring transformative change to West Point.
