Group Rejects Presence of “Compromised” Council of Churches Leaders
IPNEWS: The Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) movement has announced that it will boycott a security roundtable meeting organized by the Ministry of Justice if the current leadership of the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) is included in the discussions.
The roundtable, scheduled ahead of STAND’s planned December 17 “Lead or Leave” Protest, is intended to coordinate security and ensure peaceful demonstrations. While the group confirmed receipt of the invitation, it said participation will depend on the exclusion of what it described as “compromised regime collaborators” within the LCC leadership.
In a statement released Wednesday, November 5.2025, STAND accused some church leaders of betraying their moral responsibility and aligning themselves with political interests rather than the truth.
“We will not sit with corrupt church leaders who have betrayed the pulpit and sold their conscience for power,” the statement reads. “The people’s movement cannot share the table with those who bless oppression and call it peace. Liberia deserves true prophets, not ‘Holy Hustlers.’”
STAND reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and democratic advocacy, insisting that any engagement with the government or external stakeholders must be conducted in an atmosphere of fairness, neutrality, and integrity.
“As Liberians prepare to demand accountability, justice, and good governance, dialogue must not be used as a tool to silence dissent or protect the powerful,” the group emphasized.
The movement reiterated its rallying call for the upcoming demonstration:
“Lead or Leave – Enough is Enough. No Retreat, No Surrender.”
The Ministry of Justice has not yet responded to STAND’s latest statement. Observers say the group’s position could complicate ongoing efforts to ensure broad-based dialogue and coordination ahead of the December protest. By: Andrew B Weah, 0770637216/0886429103, andrewbweah@gmail. Com
