–As Students Warn Government Over Faculty Strike

IPNEWS: Tubmanburg, Bomi- Bomi Community College students have given the Liberian government an ultimatum to resolve the ongoing strike by the Rural Universities and Colleges Faculty Association of Liberia (RUCEFAL). If not addressed, they threaten a peaceful shutdown of all government offices in Bomi County.

The students, advocating for their right to education, submitted a petition to Bomi County Superintendent Miatta Dorley on October 6, 2026, for onward delivery to President Joseph Boakai, urging prompt action.

Alfred Coleman, speaking on behalf of his fellow students, explained that their main concern is their education, citing a violation of Article 15, section (b) of the 1986 Liberian constitution. He emphasized they are not aligning with either the government or the faculty.

Coleman warned that if the government does not resolve the strike this week, they will peacefully shut down all government offices in Bomi County until intervention occurs.

The strike, driven by RUCEFAL’s demands for improved working conditions, salary equality, and a comprehensive faculty development plan for rural colleges, has disrupted academic activities across rural institutions.

The students’ ultimatum has increased pressure on the government to settle the strike, which affects many rural colleges nationwide.

Upon receiving the petition, Bomi County Superintendent Miatta Dorley expressed concern about the strike and committed to meeting with the college’s president to find an amicable solution.

She also urged the students to stay calm and assured them she would update them soon.

The petition has been forwarded to the President by the County Superintendent, and the government’s response to the students’ demands remains to be seen
