The President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, has taken a significant step in promoting locally produced goods by ordering 130 bags of “I Love Liberian Rice,” a flagship product of the Community of Hope Agriculture Project (CHAP).
The move highlights a growing national push toward strengthening Liberia’s agriculture sector and reducing dependence on imported food commodities, particularly rice, which remains a staple in most Liberian households.
The commitment was made following a strategic meeting between Senator Karnga-Lawrence and CHAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Bishop Robert S. M. Bimba, at the Liberian Senate, where both parties discussed opportunities to expand local rice production.
During the engagement, the Senate Pro-Tempore praised the quality and professional packaging of the CHAP-produced rice, emphasizing that maintaining high standards is essential for building trust and confidence among Liberian consumers.
She further reiterated her support for CHAP’s ongoing expansion initiatives in Grand Bassa County, noting that such efforts are critical for creating jobs, empowering local farmers, and improving livelihoods across rural communities.
The initiative underscores the government’s increasing alignment with private agricultural ventures aimed at enhancing food security and promoting economic sustainability through homegrown solutions.
As CHAP continues to scale up its production, stakeholders believe that locally grown rice like “I Love Liberian Rice” is steadily positioning itself as a competitive and reliable alternative within Liberia’s national market.
