—Runs to Senator Amara Konneh’s Defense
Former controversial Financial and Development Minister Samuel Tweah Jr., has taken a dramatic turn on the government of President Joseph Boakai, declaring that prices of commodities under the Leadership of the veteran politician is 12.48% Expensive than his predecessor former President George Manneh Weah.
Tweah currently under probe for economic sabotage and related offenses comments came on the back of recent expression by Senator Amara Konneh about the ‘silent majority’, he claims were part of a large attendance at the ‘enough is enough Protest held last Thursday.
Former Minister Tweah, expressed his profound thanks to Senator Amara Konneh for his honesty and for championing a new brand of “ honest politicking,” a strange and alien animal in the environ of Liberian politics.
“Independent thinking, bravery and honesty are the ingredients truly missing to forge a new genre of politics. Mr. Senator you have stepped up as a leader in this new field. Because most politicians do not understand macroeconomic numbers, they do not like to quote them so our politics is riddled with lies.”
Tweah stated that as more senators, representatives and appointed officials of government start to interpret numbers to the citizens, He believes lies will be more effectively countered.
“It is an unassailable fact that the CDC administration handed the UP administration a solid macroeconomic foundation. Nothing can change or should dilute this fact. Poverty was declining, growth was increasing, net international reserves were higher than CDC inherited, and inflation was lower.”
“As we speak, between January 2024 to end June 2025 , LISGIS CPI data show that prices are 12.48 percent higher. So things on average are 12.48 percent more expensive under the UP than they were under the CDC. If something cost LD $ 100.00 under the CDC, it now costs LD$112.48 under the Unity Party.”
“This is a FACT. The UP should use this fact and apply the same macroeconomic strategies or even better strategies than the CDC used to achieve the macroeconomic stability Senator Konneh referenced.” Former Finance Minister Tweah stated.
Tweah further added that the under-World Bank financing, the CDC commenced the construction of around 87 public schools with 25 of them being high schools-stressing that ‘We look to UP administration to complete and dedicate these projects’.
“We should now turn our attention to availing quality education where the challenge is more intimidating. Now that the CDC administration has addressed some major quantity milestones, the UP administration should turn its focus to addressing quality issues. This I believe is how the CDC-UP governance alternation can move Liberia forward.”
“Senator Konneh is telling us to leave party sentiments aside and focus on these big issues, allowing the economic and devilment numbers to speak for themselves. For his BRAVERY, we all owe him a huge debt of public gratitude. “former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah stressed.
It may be recalled Senator Amara Konneh worte on his social media less than 24hrs after the much talked about Enough is Enough protest headed by STAND: “that now that the debate about yesterday’s protest and crowd size is over, I hope we can focus on the important issues affecting our country. The truth quietly watches our self-deception since 1980. It doesn’t protest or make noise. Those who oppose us often reveal truths that supporters might miss. We lie to protect ourselves, but we usually speak honestly when we disagree.
Yesterday may not have been a good day for the protesters, according to regime supporters, but I hope our government hears their complaints. A silent majority didn’t feel the need to protest yesterday, maybe because of its leaders, but will protest at the polls in 2029 if they don’t see the government making a difference in their lives. They say, “We can ignore reality, but we cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.” Remember, we had stable macroeconomics before the 2023 elections. While we are making steady progress now, times are still tough for families. Don’t trust those who only say good things about you or a situation!”
Following the post, Deputy Information Minister Daniel O. Sando swiftly responded to the Gbapolu County Senator under the title “I beg to differ with Senator Konneh”
Sando stated that Senator Konneh remarks, while framed as a call for reflection, were riddled with contradictions and deceptive rhetoric.
“Your attempt to downplay the steady progress being accomplished by the government on many fronts while simultaneously warning of a “silent majority’s” potential backlash in 2029 is a thinly veiled political ploy—one that seeks to absolve your own faction of accountability to the people while shifting the blame on the government as usual.”
“Your Pretense of Selective Truth-Telling is annoying. You claim that “those who oppose us often reveal truths that supporters might miss,” yet you are engaged in the very deception you condemned. I wonder where your reverence for the truth was when the CDC was in power?”
“Also, your suggestion that Liberia had “stable macroeconomics before the 2023 elections,” while ignoring the excesses of the erstwhile CDC regime that plunged the economy into the toilet, is a gross distortion. The economic stagnation, corruption, and mismanagement of state resources by the Weah administration are well-documented and should not be ignored.”
“Senator Konneh, for you to now pretend that the previous era was some golden age is an insult to the Liberian people who suffered under the failed policies of the KAKISTOCRATIC CDC regime.” Deputy Minister Sando blasted.
Touching on Senator Konneh’s admiration for the ‘Enough is Enough Protest’, Deputy Minister Sando stated that it would have been pleasant to thank the joint security forces for being more professional compared to two years ago’.
“The level of professionalism they demonstrated in the wake of broad day provocation from the protesters is a major boost to the democratic credentials of the Boakai-led government.”
“Additionally, Mr. Senator, we see no genuine reasons for a public protest against the government. We admit that everything is not rosy, but you will agree with me that the government has made steady progress in key governance areas compared to its immediate predecessor. Yes, the protest became a failure because, unlike you, our people know and understand that the motives of the organizers are self-seeking and political.”
Deputy Minister Sando concluded by sharing a few lines of some of his long-time colleagues about ‘enough is enough:
“The faces of the protest lack the moral rectitude to rally the people to protest. The same Mulbah Morlu who shamed George Weah for bastardizing the presidency and patronizing widespread uncontrollable stealing of public resources, but still remained supportive of the government to its very end, cannot marshal the people to protest against a government that’s trying to clean the mess they created”.
“The act of politicians staging protests to rebrand themselves is an antiquated political stratagem that our people have come to understand or decipher”. Do you agree with him, Mr. Senator? “ Deputy Minister Sando concluded.
