IPNEWS: The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation at the weekend has broken ground for a US$285,000 decentralized water supply system in Compound #3, Electoral District #4, Grand Bassa County.
The project, LWSC statement released said is the first phase of a broader effort by LWSC to expand safe, reliable, and sustainable water services to rural communities outside Monrovia.

According to LWSC, Phase One will establish the core water supply system for Compound #3 and surrounding areas. Phase Two will follow with household connections for families and businesses in the community.
LWSC Managing Director Hon Mohammed Ali said the project reflects its commitment to decentralizing water services and reducing reliance on unsafe water sources in rural Liberia.

MD Ali thanked District #4 Representative Alfred Flomo and Senate Pro Tempore Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence for their budgetary advocacy that helped secure funding for the project.
Thr LWSC Boss noted that Senator Karnga-Lawrence also supported short-term employment for 25 local residents during the project’s preparatory phase. She further facilitated feasibility and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment studies for the expansion of Buchanan’s water system.
The Compound #3 project is part of LWSC’s ongoing decentralization drive to bring clean water closer to communities in the counties.

Officials said similar projects are being prioritized under the government’s ARREST Agenda to improve public health and service delivery in rural areas.
Construction is expected to begin immediately, with LWSC engineers overseeing implementation in collaboration with local authorities.
