IPNEWS: The Director General of the National Bureau of Concessions (NBC), Hon. Hanson S. Kiazolu along with his senior management team, has held a constructive and results-oriented engagement with the Hummingbird Resource Liberia Inc. Concessionaires, reaffirming the Bureau’s commitment to effective concession governance in Liberia.

The engagement forms part of the NBC’s statutory mandate to monitor, evaluate, and support the proper implementation of concession agreements, while promoting transparency, accountability, and collaboration between the Government of Liberia and concessionaires.

During the meeting, both parties discussed the operational status of the Hummingbird concession, compliance with contractual obligations, and key issues relating to investment commitments, employment, community development initiatives, and environmental and social safeguards.

The NBC team emphasized the importance of aligning concession operations with national development objectives and existing legal and regulatory frameworks.

Speaking during the engagement, the Director General of the NBC stressed the importance of sustained dialogue and compliance, noting that concession agreements must translate into real benefits for the Liberian people.

“The National Bureau of Concessions remains committed to constructive engagement with all concessionaires, not only as a regulatory body but as a partner in ensuring that concession agreements are fully implemented in line with the law and national priorities,” the Director General stated.

He further emphasized that accountability and transparency remain central to the Bureau’s oversight role.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that concession agreements deliver tangible outcomes, jobs for Liberians, community development, environmental protection, and long-term economic value for the country. Compliance with concession terms is not optional; it is fundamental,” Hon. Kiazolu averred.

The Director General also highlighted NBC’s willingness to work collaboratively with concessionaires to address challenges while maintaining firm oversight.

“The DG said “we believe that open communication and cooperation can resolve implementation gaps and strengthen performance, but this must always be anchored in respect for the concession agreement and the interests of the Liberian people.”

The Hummingbird Concessionaires welcomed the engagement and expressed their appreciation for the dialogue, reaffirming their commitment to working closely with the NBC and fulfilling their contractual obligations.

The National Bureau of Concessions views the engagement as a positive step toward strengthening concession management and promoting responsible private sector participation in Liberia’s economic development.

The Bureau will continue to engage concessionaires across all sectors to ensure improved compliance, enhanced performance, and shared value creation for the nation.
