IPNEWS: Liberia’s Minister of Labour, Cllr. Cooper Kruah, has taken firm action during a weekend working visit to Bong Mines, revoking the work permits of four Chinese nationals found performing jobs legally reserved for Liberian citizens.
According to the Ministry, the individuals were discovered on a worksite engaged in tasks classified as non-specialized labor (general worker positions)—roles that qualified Liberians are capable of performing without requiring advanced training or expertise. Upon confirmation of the violation, Minister Kruah immediately ordered the cancellation of their work permits, underscoring the government’s renewed commitment to safeguarding local employment and enforcing national labour laws.
The Ministry of Labour has emphasized that it will intensify inspections nationwide to ensure full compliance with the Decent Work Act. Companies are being strongly urged to prioritize Liberian workers, particularly in positions that do not require specialized skills, and to uphold fair and lawful labour practices at all times.
