IPNEWS: The Ministry of Justice, through the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation (BCR), has officially handed over narcotics valued at LRD 1,485,591 (USD 7,818.90) to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).
According to BCR, the drugs were confiscated from inmates, visitors, and a number of Corrections officers. Individuals linked to the substances have been turned over to the Ministry of Justice for prosecution, while the BCR officers involved have been dismissed.
During the handover to LDEA’s Deputy Officer-in-Charge for Administration, Col. Ernest Tarpeh, the BCR team emphasized that the transfer was in line with LDEA’s statutory mandate over drug-related matters.

Upon receiving the items, Col. Tarpeh instructed LDEA laboratory technicians, in collaboration with UNODC partners, to conduct tests. Results confirmed the following substances:
Marijuana: 325 wraps / 366 grams
Tramadol: 17 strips / 5 pills
Kush: 323 grams
Cocaine: 24.9 grams
Heroin: 7.9 grams
The LDEA reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Justice and BCR to ensure all suspects face prosecution.
The Agency also encouraged the public to support the ongoing fight against drug trafficking by reporting suspicious activities via its hotlines: 0777133333 / 0888133333.
