This week, social media carried live the unruly display of officers of the LNP during a warn up exercise ahead of the Thursday’s STAND Protest.
Recently, Several Liberia National Police (LNP) officers were dismissed for misconduct and other violations in recent times. These include dismissals for corruption, bribery, abuse of power, and absence without leave. Some officers were also dismissed for brutalizing civilians and violating professional standards.
On January 24, 2025, The Liberia National Police (LNP) has, with immediate effect, dismissed one officer and suspended two others following an investigation by the Professional Standards Division into their involvement in acts of corruption, abuse of authority, and neglect of duty.
The investigation was triggered by an encounter between the Inspector General of Police, Hon. Gregory O.W. Coleman, and the LNP highway patrol team in Bong County on January 17, 2025, where some highway patrol officers were bothering drivers and taking bribes.
Officers Dismissed and Suspended Include:
• Sgt. Musa V. Sheriff (ID #2248): As the team leader, Sgt. Sheriff has been dismissed with immediate effect. He was found guilty of corruption, neglect of duty, and misconduct as outlined in the Administrative Instructions (AI) on discipline and professional standards.
• Patr. Julius Reeves (ID #1733): A PSU officer, Patr. Reeves has been suspended for four months without salary for participating in unethical behavior, including neglect of duty and misconduct.
• Patr. Erasmus K. Jallah (ID #6613): The driver, Patr. Jallah, has been suspended for three months without salary for his involvement in unethical behavior.
These officers are required to turn over all Government of Liberia (GoL) properties in their possession, including uniforms, shoes, belts, and badges, to the Human Resources Division of the Liberia National Police.
Accordingly, the amount of $36,000.00 Liberian Dollars confiscated from the officers as a result of the bribery has been deposited in Government coffers at the Central Bank of Liberia. Attached is the deposit document.
