IPNEWS: Monrovia, Liberia- Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, has launched a blistering attack on the Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander B. Cummings, describing him as a “political dwarf” and accusing him of being dishonest about the performance of the Boakai administration.
Speaking to reporters in Monrovia on Tuesday, Sando said he “pities Mr. Cummings and his handful of followers”, claiming that the opposition leader has resorted to what he termed “lies and outright dishonesty” in an attempt to revive what he called “a perishing political ambition.”
I pity Mr. Cummings and his handful of followers. In an attempt to revive his perishing political ambition, he has resorted to telling lies and outright dishonesty. His assertion that nothing has changed since the inception of the Boakai administration runs contrary to the glaring realities of transformation in various sectors,” Sando asserted.
The Deputy Minister went further, launching a personal jab at the ANC leader, saying Cummings is a “political dwarf” whose “height has affected his vision.”
“Cummings is a political dwarf. Apparently, his height has affected his vision — optical distortion,” Sando added.
His comments come in response to a recent statement by Mr. Cummings, who criticized President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration for what he described as poor governance and a lack of tangible progress since taking office in January 2024. Cummings, appearing on a local talk show, said many Liberians were still struggling economically and that the government had failed to address key national issues.
Sando, however, dismissed those claims, insisting that the Boakai administration has made “glaring progress” in infrastructure, agriculture, and governance reforms. He accused the ANC leader of “desperation and political irrelevance.”
“Liberians are not blind; they can see the efforts of this government. From road rehabilitation to support for farmers and civil servants’ salary harmonization, President Boakai is working tirelessly to deliver. Cummings’ comments only expose his frustration,” Sando argued.
The Deputy Minister’s remarks have sparked debate among political observers, with some describing them as unnecessarily personal and divisive, while others say they reflect the growing tension between the ruling Unity Party (UP) and opposition figures ahead of future political contests. Meanwhile, the ANC has yet to issue an official response to Sando’s comments. By: Andrew B Weah, 0770637216/0886429103, andrewbweah@gmail.com
