    Breaking from the Past:  Monrovia City Mayor John-Charuk Siafa Makes Significant Gains at MCC

    IPNEWS: Within 10 months, the city of Monrovia is gradually taking shape under the dynamic leadership of John-Charuk Siafa, as Mayor of the City of Monrovia.

    An in-depth review of progress at the Monrovia city Corporation (MCC),since his takeover as Mayor of the City, John-Charuk Siafa, takes an introspective look at an unprecedented review of MCC under his predecessor and current.

    On a guarded tour, John-Charuk Siafa takes the Independent Probe Newspaper, for a firsthand sightseen.

    At both Fliamah, and Stockton Creek garbage disposal sites formerly a no-go zone, causing health hazards for residents, in the Flamah and Garnesville blets are now renovated and upgraded to address the continued solid waste challenge acroos Monrovia.

    John-Charuk Siafa , tells IPNEWS that these facilities were in total despair upon his takeover of the MCC.

    Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, has also established a fully furnished Mini-clinic that attends to the urgent medical needs of our staff and surrounding communities at the Monrovia City Hall.

    Other achievements within the last ten months, included the renovation of the Slipway Public Latrine that lied in ruins for close to a decade, thus putting an end to open defecation in the Mesurado River, including the installation of Public Latrine on Newport Street.

    Under Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, MCC has secured a new landfill at Cheesemanburg to serve as the second landfill site for final disposal of solid waste garbage. The Construction of three housing  units and a mosque for residents affected by the Chessmanburg landfill project is just remarkable.

    Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, has further established the Monrovia City Service Center to serve as a one stop shop for business transactions with the public. For which several employees have benefited from international training opportunities in India and the London School of Economics.

    Currently, the MCC is deploying modern police booths with security features at high traffic intersections to Keep Surveillance on Illegal waste disposal and Violation of City Ordinances.

    With the alarming waves of fire outbreaks in and around Monrovia, City Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, has secured a Fire truck for the Monrovia City Corporation.

    At the moment, renovation works are ongoing on the facilities of the Monrovia City Corporation which was inherited with broken infrastructures including leaking roofs

    At the MCC Lynch Street facility, Mayor John-Charuk Siafa   is currently undertaking renovation works at the MCC Lynch Street facility that now serves as the Directorate of Public Safety/ and Headquarters of the Monrovia City Police.

    Additional four Bio-fill toilets were constructed for residents in Wroto Town, Congo Town, West Point and Gardnersville areas.

    Others include, installation of 37 trash bins across central Monrovia; installation of 30 solar-powered streetlights in Day Break Mouth Open Community, Palm Hill and Bong Mines Bridge. 

    Construction of a 1.9-kilometer access road leading to the Chessmanburg landfill, including installation of 1.2 meter chain-linked fence around the Chessmanburg landfill.

    The MCC under City Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, distributed 2,500 mosquito nets in communities that are closer to the Fiamah and Stockton Creek Transfer Stations to prevent the risk of vector-borne diseases. 

    Further achievements made during the ten months include, the holding of more than 20 meetings with residents in communities and attended international conferences to advance the interest of the City of Monrovia. 

    MCC donated huge batch of  sanitation materials to the Borough of New Kru Town to aid solid waste collection; Implemented and continued support for regular clean up exercise  across the city Monrovia continues.

    Establishment of relationships with various Embassies and cities across the world is yielding fruits.

    Policy Formulation

    The MCC under the stewardship of Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, has developed a National Solid Waste Policy; Developed Street Vendor regulation for Street Selling, ongoing discussion on the draft Municipal Collaboration Agreement with Townships and the Borough of New Kru Town.
