ANC Cummings Wants Independent Int’l Investigators in 19 million Drugs Investigation

IPNEWS: Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader Alexander B. Cummings has called for an independent international investigation into the circumstances surrounding Liberia’s June 8, 2026, seizure of cocaine valued at approximately US$19.2 million.

Addressing a major Press conference for the first time on the high-profile drug case, Cummings stated that he intends to engage Liberia’s international partners to support an investigation, preserve relevant evidence, and conduct an independent audit of how the case has been handled by the authorities.

According to the ANC leader, the scale of the seizure and the public concerns that have followed require an investigation that is transparent, credible, and free from political influence.

Cummings said he is taking the initiative because, in his view, the Liberian government has not demonstrated the political commitment, institutional strength, or technical capacity needed to conduct an independent and professional investigation while ensuring the impartial application of the rule of law.

He argued that the government’s handling of the case has raised more questions than confidence, adding that its actions have fueled public skepticism about whether justice will be served.

“The Liberian people deserve a transparent and independent investigation that commands public trust,” Cummings said, maintaining that international assistance is necessary to ensure accountability and credibility in the process.

He further asserted that many Liberians have lost confidence in the Unity Party-led administration’s ability to thoroughly investigate the drug seizure, prosecute those responsible without fear or favor, and prevent organized drug trafficking networks from using Liberia as a transit point.

The June 8 cocaine seizure, one of the largest reported in Liberia’s history, has generated widespread public debate, with opposition parties, civil society organizations, and governance advocates calling for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case and the individuals involved.
