IPNEWS: The president of the Publishers Association of Liberia Alphonso Tweh, has lauded the performance of the government of President Joseph Boakai in key areas of the country’s revitalization.
Addressing the induction Program of the Reporters Association, lauded the newly inducted leadership of the RAL for opening it arms to work with the government as a partner.
Tweh commended the Government of Liberia for its ongoing financial initiatives, while simultaneously warning state actors and media institutions against using sycophancy for political leverage.
Tweh credited the administration of President Joseph Boakai for taking positive steps toward addressing longstanding legacy debts owed to various media institutions across the country.
PAL acknowledged this effort as a vital sign of respecting the independent media’s fundamental role in driving national democratic development.
Alongside the commendation, the PAL leadership issued a stern warning against compromising journalistic integrity.
The association cautioned against political sycophancy—the practice of giving insincere praise or blind compliance to government officials—reminding media managers that reporting must remain objective and free from transactional manipulation aimed at securing political favors or accelerated payments.
The PAL also utilized this opportunity to directly clarify the exact status of the government’s financial obligations to local media houses
The association explicitly pushed back against recent statements made by certain government actors claiming that all debts owed to the media sector had been completely cleared.
PAL clarified that the debt settlement process is still incomplete. A significant number of its member independent publishing institutions have yet to receive their payments.
Tweh formally urged the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to accelerate the verification and disbursement process to ensure every single outstanding media bill is fully resolved.
