The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has kicked-off Operation Restore Hope IV in the Southeast region of Liberia, to mitigate the growing security threats in that region and to combat the influx of unauthorized foreigners on Liberian soil.
According to a statement issued Thursday July 10, 2025, the AFL noted that there have been reports of influx of foreigners along with some locals in the border towns and cities in the southeastern region, specifically Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, Maryland and River Gee.
It cited that these illegal inhabitants are said to be carrying out transnational and maritime crimes, smuggling, illicit mining and drug trafficking in Liberia.
The intent for the launch of Operation Restore Hope IV is to deny the entry of unauthorized foreigners into Liberia and support local authorities in safeguarding all areas along the Liberian-Ivorian border, thereby ensuring the peace, security and safety of the people in the southeastern region, and Liberia as a whole.
“Based on the above, the Armed Forces of Liberia is pleased to inform the public about the conduct of “Operation Restore Hope IV” which is a direct action in coordination with Civil Authority to deploy a task force in Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, Maryland and River Gee Counties, to locate and deny unauthorized foreigners and locals from operating illegally on Liberian soil,” the release said.
The AFL is also going to conduct robust land and riverloine patrols along the border areas in the southeastern region.
Throughout the operation, the Liberia Coast Guard is going to be deployed on the Liberian waters to interdict, halt, impede and cut off any strange movements by any unknown person or group of persons who may pose a threat to Liberia as Operation Restore Hope IV is being conducted.
In March of this year, the Armed Forces of Liberia launched a nationwide patrol to strengthen national security and combat drugs trafficking and other illegal crimes across Liberia’s borders, beginning with the Western Liberia.
