IPNEWS: President Joseph Boakai has delivered his third annual message (State of the Nation Address) to the 55th National Legislature on Monday, January 26, 2026.
Under the theme “From Resolve to Results: Building on Progress and Delivering for the Liberian People,” he declared that the state of the nation is “stronger than it was a year ago”.
President Boakai told members of the Legislature that the country Gross Domsitic Product had made significant growth of the past two years with the economy growing at 5.1% in 2025, outperforming both the 4.6% forecast and the 4.0% growth seen in 2024.
The Liberia chief executive stated that Inflation has dropped to 4% by December 2025, which Boakai noted as the lowest level in over two decades.
He also reported that Liberia made its highest domestic revenue collection in history, totaling $847.7 million for 2025, projecting an average growth of approximately 6% between 2026 and 2028.
On Infrastructure and Energy, President Boakai said his administration reported paving 121.87 kilometers of roads between January 2024 and December 2025, while the National access to electricity expanded from 33% to 35%, with over 63,000 new customers connected.
Remarkably, President Boakai reported that a landmark agreement was secured with a Moroccan entity to invest in equipment and logistics at the Free Port of Monrovia, aimed at breaking a long-standing monopoly.
Addressing the situation confronting Aviation, President Boakai reported that significant upgrades at Roberts International Airport (RIA) were highlighted, including the reopening of Taxiway Bravo.
Governance and Accountability
President Joseph Boakai reported that his administration has secured 11 indictments and two convictions through the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC).
Under Land Reform, President Boakai reported a moratorium on public land sales had been lifted in 2025 only after a standardized national deed system has been established to prevent “land grabs”.
The Liberian leader further reported that his administration Decentralization policy continue to make significant reforms with County Service Center Coordinators deployed across all 15 counties to improve local revenue and service delivery.
For Social and Legislative Agenda, Boakai announced the National Housing Authority will begin building 600 social housing units across six counties starting next month February 2026.
On New Legislation, the President plans to submit bills for a National Road Authority, a National Planning Commission, and universal health insurance in 2026.
For Urban Renewal, President Boakai pledged to resolve the relocation of the Palm Grove Cemetery and rehabilitate decaying public buildings in Monrovia.
On the International stage, president Boakai highlighted Liberia’s successful bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2026–2027 term, alongside the country’s eligibility for a second Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact which has been reaffirmed, focusing on energy and job creation.
